In the summer of 1996, a thunderstorm ravaged our hardwood forest. Johnson Creek Hardwoods began the following spring, when we purchased a sawmill to utilize the damaged timber. We thought it would be another hobby, but when the first lumber came out of the kiln, there was so much demand that we realized we had started a business.

Today, we produce high quality lumber from more than two dozen Northwestern Illinois hardwood species. We strive to utilize as much of the available resource as possible while adhering to a sustainable forestry ethic. We occasionally buy logs as they become available locally, and we are happy to process town and yard trees.

Our timber resource is far too valuable to waste.

Each generation takes the earth as trustees. We ought to bequeath to posterity as many forests and orchards as we have exhausted and consumed.
